2019: Book #24

“God never wastes His children’s pain.”
– Amy Carmichael

“Only when our greatest love is God, a love that we lose even in death, can we face all things with peace.”
– Tim Keller

“Providence is wiser than you, and you may be confident it has suited all things better to your eternal good than you could do had you been left to your own option.”
– John Flavel

“God is working in the hearts of those who have wronged us as well as in our hearts…The justice of God is far more sure and unerring, for it is the justice of love.”
– Eric Liddell

“When you’re in great pain, with everything taken away, you can still pray, you can still worship, and you can still love others you. Those three things cannot be taken away from you. Ever.”
– Anonymous

“How things appear to us and how they actually are are rarely the same. Sometimes it looks and feels like the Almighty is dealing “very bitterly” with us when all the while he is doing us and many others more good than we could have imagined.”
– Jon Bloom

“But things are not always as they seem here on earth. Heaven rules. An unseen hand controls those who think they exercise ultimate control. Kings and kingdoms, laws and decrees – these are all subject to the One who sits on the throne and reigns over all. No human is powerful enough to thwart God’s plan.”

These are all quotes from a tremendous new book by Nancy and Robert Wolgemuth titled You Can Trust God to Write Your Story.

My heart needed this book. My heart will continue to need this book. The Wolgemuths do something brilliant–they tell the stories of those who have suffered, struggled, and failed but have seen God’s faithful hand through those dark waters.

At some point, a story will resonate with you. You’ll stop seeing others in the pages…you’ll see yourself. And it’s at that point that the truths of the book begin to find their way to your heart.

The words in this book are true. People have found God to be faithful, sweet, true and mighty in their darkest moments.

This is a book I’ll read at least once per year. You should read it too. It’ll do your heart, faith, and soul some good.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

That’s book #24 for 2019.
