PAR Press Release: New Ministry Wing & PAR Leader

Positive Alternative Radio is launching  “PAR Impact,” a new division of its ministry that will empower local listeners to impact their communities and the world for Christ.  “The Gospel is the central driving force behind the concept,” according to PAR President Edward Baker.

“The Gospel is essential to who we are as a ministry, and we believe sharing it begins in our own backyard, with the listeners already partnering with us,” Baker said.

PAR Impact will allow local listeners to connect with organizations making a difference for Christ in their own communities.  The new division will create ways for listeners to volunteer and even donate to causes important to them, both locally and around the world.

“We consistently have national ministries approaching our individual stations to support their efforts,” Baker explained.  “We are working on methods to allow our listeners to get involved and live out their faith in a meaningful, fulfilling way.”

Positive Alternative Radio also announced that the Coordinator of PAR Impact would be Derek Withrow.

“Derek is a perfect fit with this new venture.  His passion for partnering with local and national ministries is unmatched.  He brings ministry experience to the table and has been serving in this role on a local level at PAR’s Walk FM station in Ashland, KY.   I’m thrilled to welcome Derek to the PAR Leadership team and look forward to seeing him lead the charge in PAR changing the local, national and global landscape.”

Withrow, who begins his new duties immediately, shared that two Impact Partners have already been selected to launch the new effort, God’s Pit Crew, which provides disaster relief and a variety of direct support ministries and the global missions organization, World Help.

“To put it simply, the goal is to change the world,” Withrow said. “We’ll be asking our listeners to go on mission trips, dig wells, distribute Bibles, build churches, sponsor children, rebuild houses and assist with disaster relief.  All of that comes from our desire to live in the light of the gospel.”

Positive Alternative Radio owns and operates stations in key markets in Virginia, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.  PAR stations provide Christian adult contemporary music formats and gospel music formats, as well as Christian content across a variety of digital platforms.   In providing services to fellow Christian broadcasters and a weekly blog entitled, “Dear Christian Radio,” PAR is dedicated to helping Christian communication ministries strive for excellence.
