For Times Like These

If you’re like me, the past two years have felt like a decade. We have experienced things we’ve never experienced before. Statistics show that loneliness is at an all time high. More and more people are struggling with depression and anxiety. We are still dealing with the pandemic. There is political unrest, increase in crime and economic stresses. It feels like the world has gone crazy. It is piling on, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

Have you asked why all this is happening? How in the world do I navigate this? I feel so inadequate to serve with all the issues that we are facing. Sometimes I just want to crawl under a rock and stay there.

But, I am reminded that God has put us here intentionally for such a time as this. We are here now because He has a plan for us. He wants to use us. He CAN use us—even in the midst of unprecedented challenges. God is still good. God is still in control. God is never surprised. And it is no accident that we are right here, right now.

When I think about God’s divine plan, I get excited. Sure, these are tough times. But, people need Jesus more than ever. We have an opportunity that we’ve never had before to serve well and point people to Jesus. And, just maybe, people will be more receptive to the hope, encouragement and love of Jesus than they were before 2020. I believe perspectives have changed and priorities have shifted. We are more appreciative of things we used to take for granted: dinner with friends, church services and fellowship, in person learning, concerts, movies, and shopping at a mall. These were things we didn’t think twice about prior to March 2020.

The world has changed, but God has not changed. God is still the only answer to all the chaos and uncertainty that we face. We are here to point the world to God. May we be faithful to keep at it and serve others well. When we feel like crawling under a rock, just pick up the rock and keep moving. It’s no accident that we are in ministry now. God has put us right where we are for times like these.
