2018: Book #11

During a round of depression, Abraham Lincoln’s friend, Joshua Speed, quoted Lincoln as saying that he would be more than willing to die except “he had done nothing to make any human being remember that he had lived.”

That’s from James McPherson’s book, “Abraham Lincoln.”

And that is book #11 for 2018.

Don’t be too impressed. The book is only 65 pages.

McPherson, noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar, wanted to write a short overview of Lincoln’s life. It’s an excellent short read. He frames Lincoln’s life within the face that Abe wants to be remembered. He’s ambitious and wants to leave a mark. Well, Mr. President…

…you accomplished your goal.

How this book helped me as a leader:

  • Strive to do something great with your life. Don’t just survive. Leave a mark on this world. By doing so, yours is a life well lived.
  • Be mentored and be a mentor. Lincoln had a mentor and he was a mentor. We all need people speaking into our lives.
  • Life is hard. Leadership is harder, but it’s worth it…keep at it. Never, never give up. Those who give up never accomplish anything. Lean in. Change the world.

That’s book #11…loved it.
I’m a Lincoln fan, so I’m biased.

5 out of 5 stars.

41 more books left to hit the goal of 52.

Remember, all leaders are readers.
If you want to be a better leader…be a reader.
